Space Collaborative Art Begun with Pallavi

Space Collaborative Art Exhibition at Tasmai Gallery Puducherry October 14-30 2023

Round 1:      Pallavi Subhash created the first part of the collaborative art.

Energy is an important attribute of space, here I depict that we are all a part and parcel of the Lord,a divine Energy source, Bringing together multiple energiesto create a unified dialogue about learning and unlearning. Through this work I am trying to document different perspectives creating space for each other as a part of the one divine source

Round 2:        I then appliqued the hands in prayer and also embroidered and beaded them

Space Collaborative Art :Mohalla

 

Round 1

Nilladri Dutt : Mohalla theme art: a space where build environment plays a role in shaping a society where people interact with each other, culturally or through socio-economic ways

Round 2:

Pallavi continued the theme and incorporated her thought of holding space for others with the help of threads(interlocked yarns)just like dangling cables in a street connecting people to each other in various ways

Round 3: I added more figures and music to live in harmony.

Space Collaborative Art: Creative Space, Happy Place

My first Space Collaboration is called  Creative Space, Happy Place 

I appliqued on tone on tone cotton fabric so that my fellow artists could paint if if they wished.

I used Fiberglass window screen for the middle chimney, added artist palette charms on my inner child who is enjoying playing in the studio with a paintbrush chimney.

Space Art Collaborative

 

Am excited to be a part of this collaborative art exhibition at Tasmai, a Centre for Art and Culture. No.17, Advocate Chinna Tambi Street, Kuruchukupam, Pondicherry - 605012

The exhibition opens on Saturday, 14 October 2023 until 30 October 2023.

Space is an international collaborative art project where three artists from vastly different backgrounds came together to create three different physical or digital artworks ( in any medium) celebrating the spirit of creative collaboration.

Soniya and Vam's wedding quilt

 

                                             

This quilt was made to celebrate Soniya and Vam's beautiful destination Colorado Rockies wedding.

The wedding invitation with all its multiday celebrations were photo transferred to fabric and then cut out in the shape of large hearts. The quilt makes note of their courtship from first date to engagement to the marriage ceremony. 

The red hearts signify the meaning of Saptapadi…each of the seven steps around the sacred fire during the Hindu marriage ceremony when they exchange garlands of flowers and take 7 steps, Saptapadi encircling the fire, and each step represents a vow.

Step 1: May the couple be blessed with an abundance of food
Step 2: May the couple be strong and complement one another
Step 3: May the couple be blessed with prosperity
Step 4: May the couple be eternally happy
Step 5: May the couple be blessed with children
Step 6: May the couple live in perfect harmony
Step 7: May they be the best of friends forever

There are also a couple of reversible charms..
Once Upon a Time and Happily Ever After is in the first block. The last block “Just Married” has children on the reverse!

Their two favorite cats are also included in their family quilt.

Displacing Fear With Hope

 

 Made for Project Quilting 14.6 – Conquer a Fear

 The biggest fear in my life is being stuck indefinitely in grief's tumultuous journey.

 I am working on letting go some of my sadness, taking my time in doing the things that give me comfort, and living my life alone in my present reality.

 The sunrise and sunshine give me hope on each new day.

Safety Concerns Mobile

 

 Project Quilting 14.5 challenge, Sew NOT A SQUARE.

 The house mobile includes rolled eyes, a teardrop and question marks for the residents of East Palestine, Ohio who were exposed to the toxic chemicals from the train derailment. Some contaminated waste was transported  locally to Michigan and the question marks make me wonder if they are truly non hazardous and safe.

 Bubble wrapped day of the dead cardstock question mark (for extra protection), textured wallpaper question mark, recycled red foil tear drop, wallpaper and cotton rolled eyes, beads, sequins, clear elastic thread, hand embroidery, machine quilting

Book Inspired Quilt

The Project Quilting 14.4  challenge was to make a quilt inspired by a book.

This quilt was inspired by an eye opening book by Dr Robert Malone, inventor of the mRNA vaccines Lies My Government Told Me.

The ouch beaded bookmark has a 4 leaf clover that implies good luck to me

Painted blue dryer sheet clouds, textured wallpaper pen nib, hand embroidered eye, recycled silver aluminum paper represents droplets and tears. The red teardrop represents those who had vaccine adverse reactions and injuries including me.

Make It Count!

The challenge title, 54 40 and Fight inspired me to use the basic shapes in the quilt block but with different numbers for my postcard as a reminder to savor each moment. There are 86,400 seconds, 1440 minutes, and 24 hours in each day and we should Choose Joy to make each one count.  

Materials: beads, white dryer sheets and white on white cotton fabric

 Techniques: painted blue dryer sheets and white on white fabric , hand embroidery, machine embroidery, machine quilting

Feed Me First...

Enjoyed making this fun postcard for a pink challenge that brings back fond memories of feeding my 3 young grandbabies who were very close in age and were hungry at the same time.  As they got older, milk bottles have been replaced by donuts, their favorite new treats.

I also challenged myself to use recycled materials. The background is  made from a white dryer sheet that was colored pink.  A pink bubble wrap envelope was reused as the border and the wrench handle.  The silver wrenches are from an aluminum foil circle from packaging. Embroidery floss scraps make up the nest. A rubber toy donut was sliced in half horizontally and finally added beads for the donut sprinkles to attach to the fabric postcard.

Hand embroidery weekly challenge

Learning new hand embroidery stitches each week this year with  the TAST Facebook group. Hope to learn and improve with each week. Started with a prequilted pillowcase to have a sturdy base and focus on the stitches.

Gratitude Box

Made a box for my mom. Wrote small notes of gratitude and appreciation of why she means so much to me, put them in a small giftbag and then in the box. She reads one note each day..a great way to start each day this month...

 Life today is a huge adjustment from being a couple for 4 decades to being all alone.  Not a single day goes by that I don't miss you, your cheerful smile and the sound of your awesome laughter...

My grief postcard to my better half is my interpretation of the Project Quilting Season14.1  Theme :“one”

Countdown to Christmas/ Advent Calender

Embellished this Countdown to Christmas with 3 simple surprises for my 3 grandkids .

Each day they can peek in the cubby for fun treats.

 I filled each cubby with  stickers, cat pins, stamps, ornaments and small treasures.

Hope they look forward to it daily enjoy them!

Autumn Tornado

"Autumn Tornado " has been selected as for the SAQA Global Exhibition Primal Forces: Wind exhibition. I made this quilt for my grandson who is fascinated by Tornadoes. The yarn was hand couched and has a lot of beads. The leaves were  cut out of a sheer ribbon using a heat tool. Love the texture in the quilt. 29x21"

Keys To The Nation

The Washington DC skyline was combined with a key in Make The Cut software. It was cut out by an electronic cutter and both the positive and negative designs were appliqued in the quilt. The positives and negatives that happen in DC affects the rest of the nation. The USA map has Zentangle designs with Pigma pens
