Library Papercraft projects

 

 

 

 

We created several projects at the Plymouth, Michigan  Library on Saturday.

One was a candle that we added an embellished design on mulberry or tissue paper.Wax paper was placed on top of the design around the candle and our design was melted with a heat gun.

We also made several cards..one was a giant heart that folded in an envelope size and can be mailed.

We also created pockets that have a sliding Candy bar with the help of a ribbon.

It was a very fun day with supplies generously provided by the Library and lots of time and patience on part of the Librarians for the 48 attendees.

 

 

 

 

 

Quilts about the Economy

At the height of the recession, I made a couple of journal quilts about the economy and the excessive spending by our politicians. The quilts are in the current issue of Quilter's Newsletter Magazine . Sadly, there is not much accountability for waste, or living within a budget as the spending continues on and on...

Based on Emory Austin’s quote, this quilt has beads, charms, zipper, washers and net. The quilt  was designed in Make the Cut Software.                                                                                                                 

It is included in the Lesley Riley’s book, Quotes Illustrated 

Recycled Placemats to Gift bags

Sew 4 placemats, 2 on each side into giant gift bags by adding belting for handles. They are strong, durable and reusable every year. 

The Newest Angel

 The two angels at the bottom represent my daughters and the top is the new grandchild.

 

Recycled Spools

A tree is made of spools with glued fabric scraps. At the base, gifts including scissors, thimbles, knitting needles, safety pins, fabrics and other sewing essentials.

The girls with spool arms and legs are sitting in a giant candy that split open.

Just When The Caterpillar Thought The World Was Over...

 

The quilt is my fable of the butterfly's life cycle with a moral. The leaf, leaf with eggs, the eaten leaf that feeds the caterpillar, Chrysallis and emerging butterfly. The circle represents the world and the bar code is to count blessings!

It was designed in Make the Cut software. A circle and bar code were Boolean joined. Node editing from lines into curves provides a path for caterpillar to transform into a butterfly. It was cut with my electronic cutter and free motion embroidered and quilted.

Nelson Mandela's Presence

Remembering Nelson Mandela and this quilt I made as a tribute to him, it is now owned by the Michigan State University museum.
