Sheer Delight workshop













We painted cheescloth, Luradur, Tyvek
Cut instant appliques with diecuts,
Layered with sheers
Heat distressed under a hood in a lab with metal and heat tools for 3 layer sheer leaves and used a heat gun to create waterlily leaves.
We cut holes in quilted postcards and zigzagged around hole. We layers some with sheers and left some holes on purpose!

Autumn Sheer Delight

Combined Project Quilting (create a quilt in a week) and a quilt for my sheers workshop for the Greater Ann Arbor Quilt Guild in May.
Autumn Sheer Delight has Cheesecloth, Net, Sheers, trims, Tyvek, and fiberglass window screen and is another quilt in a continuing series.
The theme was Eight is Great! 142 quilters finished a quilt in a week..

“Sheer” Delight!


“Sheer” Delight!   

 Add several transparent layers or holes in sheer layers to create a more complex looking quilt. Work with sheer fabrics, net, and other media.

This techniques class will include uses of a variety of sheers in many different ways. We will  fold, gather, pleat, stamp, and heat distress sheers. We can also create grids and underlays with beads. Your samples can include feathers, leaves, flowers, trees, water, shadows, as well as layers of positive negative images.

The $10 kit fee includes foil, Lutradur, Tyvek, window screen, acrylic felt , synthetic fabrics  including nylon, organza / satin / tulle , Mistyfuse, transparancies   

Supplies: 
A few fat quarter cottons in a several colors as well as sky, land, water fabrics,  basic sewing supplies, sewing machine, 1 yard fusible web, 1 yard Peltex/ Timtex, small mat and rotary cutter, water soluble pen, Microtex needle 12/80 or smaller

Optional: 
-Sheers and synthetic ribbons in your stash if you want an even larger variety.
-beads, heat gun, heat tools as a soldering iron/ stencil cutter
-manual die cutter and dies

 I will bring my Cuttlebug and Sizzix with dies so you can also play with them 

The pictures are just a few examples of the possibilities.Some of the many techniques we will play with are heat distressing, backgrounds, overlays, floats,and positive/ negative images.

Creative Word Art  Design
Translate your favorite quotation, first name, family name or milestone into a quilt. Create original designs with letters, words, your sense of humor, or give free advice. We will use text as background, create cut outs, use positive / negative images and do many more exercises.  Brainstorm to create first on paper and then on fabric using multiple resources.
Create your own quilts or personalize them for gifts.

Supplies: 
A few fat quarters in a variety of colors, fabric with text, fabric with text in selvedges, paper, pencil, color pencils/ markers, blank index cards, glue stick, ruler, rotary cutter and mat, scissors. Sewing machine, batting, backing, a yard of fusible web, and basic sewing supplies.


Optional supplies: Laptop or smartphone, word/ letter stamps and inkpads, Diecuttter and text dies if you own them.  Buttons, charms, scrabble tiles, found objects, ric rac, trims, zippers
